Tapas is regarded as Spain's national cuisine. Tapa, meaning top or cap, is a bite sized portion of food that usually accompanies a beer or glass of wine. Most bars have a variety of Tapas on the counter, most will include Chorizo sausage, Tortilla, Patatas Bravas (Potatoes in a garlic mayonnaise), Empanadas (similar to a pie) and croquetas. A single serving usually costs between one fifty to three Euros. Of course you don't always have to indulge in Spanish cuisine when residing in the nation's capital. There comes a time when Jamon y Tortilla bocadillos, with a side complement of olives becomes a little mundane.
